History of Elliot 7s
In the season of 1945/46 Rolls-Royce ‘A’ won the Three Counties seven-a-side competition, the Noel Syson Cup at Nottingham. The transport to the tournament was via A G Elliott’s(RR Chief Engineer) ‘Motor Car’, who after the victory also brought them back to his office in Nightingale Road, for further celebrations and to ensure the Noel Syson Cup was safely stowed away. Memories of the rest of that evening are far from clear but it is known that the celebrations were continued at the Foreman’s Club on Bateman Street. On Monday morning, the Noel Syston Cup could not be found despite frantic searches of Elliott’s and adjoining offices. Later in the week it was found at the Foreman’s Club, then the team remembered where they had spent Saturday night!
It seems A G Elliott was a great supporter of RRRFC and the first inter-site Elliott’s Cup was played in the 1943/44 season won by the SINFIN team.
